What is the difference between Arden Park Neighborhood Association (APNA) and Arden Park Recreation and Parks District (APRPD)?
The Arden Park Neighborhood Association (APNA) is a neighborhood organization which, through the engagement of volunteers, works to serve the members of our community. APNA focuses on issues our members tell us are important to them. The vast majority of membership fees pay for security patrols (off-duty Sheriff Deputies and private security) to help keep our neighborhood safe. The remainder is divided between additional operating expenses (e.g., newsletters, website, bank fees, telephone, etc.)
Frequently, APNA is confused with the Arden Park Recreational Park District (APRPD) which manages our beautiful parks (Arden Park and Cresta Park) and their facilities, as well as coordinates numerous community events and activities. APRPD is funded by property tax assessments and user participation fees, whereas APNA is solely financially supported by our members. APNA is also sometimes confused with a homeowners’ association (HOA). However, unlike an HOA, APNA does not enforce rules about the appearance and maintenance of properties or maintain common areas.
I have an issue with my neighbor's "fill in the blank" (parking, dog, fence, nuisance activities, trees, etc); what should I do?
The ideal approach is always to talk to your neighbor first - diplomatic conversations help build community and cooperation. You should also check Sacramento County Code and Ordinances to determine if they are doing anything illegal or improper. If they are in violation of an ordinance, and they fail to correct it after you have talked to them tactfully, you can report the issue to 311.
Can I pay with PayPal?
We have changed payment processing companies to reduce costs and integrate with our new website. The new provider, Stripe (you'll see the link to PayItPrompt.com) is a safe and secure platform for paying and receiving payments and is a widely used and trusted payment gateway that handles billions of dollars in transactions every year on many seller platforms. It is cheaper than PayPal for an organization our size, and it interfaces seamlessly with our web-hosting site. Your information is encrypted when you make your payment, but not retained by either the APNA or Stripe, which is added security for you.
Can I set my dues up to be paid automatically each year?
Because neither the APNA nor Stripe retains your card information (see above) we are unable to offer auto-renewals. You can, alternatively, set up your bank bill pay to send us a check every year on a predetermined date (preferrably in January), and we welcome that option.
Can I set my dues up for a monthly auto pay from my bank?
Technically that is something your bank can do, but it does cause a lot of extra work. Each check must be endorsed, recorded, and taken to the bank each month which takes a great deal of time; as we are all volunteers in service to our neighborhood, it would be great if we could focus our efforts on more impactful activities.
Dues seem expensive...is it worth it?
Neighborhood associations who have added security are proven to have lower crime rates than those that do not have additional security. We have not raised the dues amount in over 10 years, and we work with residents that want to participate but just can't afford the full amount (contact us). Our requested $150/year for dues is quite reasonable relative to our surrounding neighborhoods (annual amounts):
§ Arden Oaks - $550
§ Sierra Oaks - $300
§ Sierra Oaks Vista - $600
§ Willhaggin/Del Dayo - $300
Are membership dues tax-deductible?
APNA membership dues are not deductible on individual tax returns; we are a 501c(4) per IRS code, not a 501c(3).
Where do I call for security, crime, or traffic concerns?

Suspicious activity - Call the Sheriff’s non-emergency number, 916-874-5115 then call Security, 916-550-8212.
