Crime Prevention

Preventative Steps You Can Take To Reduce Crime

While our private security patrols are an important resource for crime prevention in Arden Park, the patrol cannot be in every place at every moment, so it's critical that each resident do their part to not invite or tempt criminals with easy targets.  These are some very easy things you can do toward this goal!  General behaviors and tips include the following:
  1. Remove valuables from cars and LOCK your car doors.

  2. Make sure your garage door is down/closed.

  3. Make sure your entry doors are locked including the garage door entry to your living space.

  4. Maintain your yard; yards with overgrown grass and bushes are more likely to draw burglaries.

  5. Increase visibility from your home; trim shrubs and trees obscuring visibility.

  6. Increase lighting around your home. Consider putting your front porch light on a dusk-to-dawn timer.

  7. Report all crimes.
Law enforcement resources in Sacramento County are prioritized based on the number of crime reports by area. Additional resources may be allocated if law enforcement sees an increase in crimes in our area.

  8. Install high resolution video doorbells and surveillance cameras.
The Sheriff’s Department has implemented new technology that can upload and utilize the video of or related to a crime. Video evidence of a crime is very useful to law enforcement, and information about suspects, their cars, etc., can be communicated to patrol officers. Crime reports with video evidence provides more for investigators to work with and contributes to higher success in resolving crimes.

  9. Bring mail and packages in timely. If you have packages delivered to home, create a space where they can be placed that is out of direct street view.

  10. Most important of all – – get to know your neighbors. Watch out for each other and inform your neighbors when you may be out of town. Let them know if workers or visitors may be coming to your house. Consider forming a Neighborhood Watch Group.
