Organizational History

The Arden Park Neighborhood Association, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, was originally incorporated as the Arden Park Homeowners Association (APHA) in 1977. The Association officially changed its name to Arden Park Neighborhood Association in 2020, as it was never formed as a home owners association, or HOA.

Our mission since our founding has been to promote the health, safety, and welfare of residents of Arden Park. We are a neighbor association dedicated to supporting our community, with an emphasis on the safety and security of our neighbors and homes.

What We Do

The Arden Park Neighborhood Association is an all-volunteer member board comprised of 11 local residents.  The Board meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month, via Zoom. To join as a guest at any meeting, please contact us via email.

The Association is responsible for:

  • Coordinating security coverage through a combination of off-duty sheriff deputies or private security patrols for a portion of every day

  • Tracking crime trends in the neighborhood.

  • Preserving and improving the neighborhood through community engagement.

  •  Assembling and distributing newsletters to every home in Arden Park, approximately three to four times annually.

  •  Providing neighborhood news through FaceBook, NextDoor, and Instagram.

FAQs

  • The Arden Park Neighborhood Association (APNA) is a neighborhood organization which, through the engagement of volunteers, works to serve the members of our community. APNA focuses on issues our members tell us are important to them. The vast majority of membership fees pay for security patrols (off-duty Sheriff Deputies and private security) to help keep our neighborhood safe. The remainder is divided between additional operating expenses (e.g., newsletters, website, bank fees, telephone, etc.).

Frequently, APNA is confused with the Arden Park Recreational Park District (APRPD) which manages our beautiful parks (Arden Park and Cresta Park) and their facilities, as well as coordinates numerous community events and activities. APRPD is funded by property tax assessments and user participation fees whereas APNA is solely supported by our members. APNA is also sometimes confused with a homeowners’ association (HOA). However, unlike an HOA, APNA does not enforce rules about the appearance and maintenance of properties or maintain common areas.

  • Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) associated with the initial development of Arden Park are neither binding nor enforced. Subsequent Federal and State laws were enacted to address outdated provisions contained in many CC&Rs. Federal (Fair Housing Act) and State law (Fair Employment and Housing Act).

  • Block parties are a great way to connect with neighbors. Block parties, and other organized events occurring within the roadway, require a Street Use Permit, issued by the Right of Way Management Section of the Sacramento County Department of Transportation. The county suggests applying at least 30 days prior to the event to ensure the permit can be approved before the event.

Member Benefits

Why should you join the APNA each year?

More members means more security:

Our main expense is for private security and is limited by the number of residents who support via dues. Help us increase security patrols, and work together to keep our neighborhood as safe as possible.

Stay Informed:

Your dues support the work to maintain our website MyArdenPark.com and our printed newsletter. The TAP Flyer is distributed 3-4 times per year and is the most consistent way to reach every single home in our neighborhood. We also have a presence on Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram, for those or more tech-savvy and want to stay abreast electronically. We also occasionally send members-only communications when special news warrants.

Have a Say:

As a dues-paying member, you have a greater voice in the priorities for work of the neighborhood association through surveys and other feedback mechanisms.

Also, you get priority access to advice and counsel of the APNA Volunteer Board, especially when there are sticky situations with neighbors or community.

Cultivate a Sense of Community:

Supporting the work of the APNA helps you to engage more with the neighborhood, and research shows that neighborhood associations improve neighborhood cooperation, quality of life, and protection of property values.

Added Security Away from Home:

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

And last but certainly not least, you get an awesome annual decal to display on your car, to show off to your neighbors and friends!
